![]() Mosquito Squad, Discusses the Outdoor Pest Control Franchise Industry![]() Posted on September 12, 2011 by Ben Baggett Why is outdoor pest control a great industry to start a business in today? If you are looking for a thriving add-on or full-time business, with a strong recurring revenue stream, Mosquito Squad is the answer. We're proud to be one of America's fastest growing franchise concepts and the clear leader in the outdoor pest control space. Our focus is the elimination of unwanted outdoor pests such as mosquitoes and ticks and their associated dangerous diseases. Homeowners and commercial establishments are investing tremendous sums of money in outdoor living areas. Our mission is to ensure that people in their community can enjoy their pool, patio, gazebo or deck throughout the entire year – without the troublesome nuisance and dangerous risks associated with pesky mosquitoes and disease-infested ticks. Our applications also help ensure that there are no unwanted guests at special events or leisurely evening spent dining or relaxing outdoors! How has the outdoor pest control industry changed in the last 10 years? 20 years? The outdoor pest control industry, especially with a focus on mosquito and tick control, didn't exist until approximately five years ago. As an early stage industry, the sector is enjoying tremendous growth despite the challenging economic climate of the last several years. A prospective franchisee should investigate the licensing requirements through their state's Department of Agriculture. Licensing requirements vary widely, but can serve as an important competitive barrier for franchisees. Why do you think Mosquito Squad stands out in the industry? We have huge brand recognition and our expertise is focused solely on outdoor pest control. What makes the Mosquito Squad opportunity more attractive than your competitors? Our national brand recognition and track record, exclusive territories, fast start-up, preferred suppliers, technology infrastructure, home based operations, minimal inventory, recurring revenues, referrals from sister brands, and the fact that Mosquito Squad is supported by a large, established franchisor in Outdoor Living Brands. Describe the ideal Mosquito Squad candidate. Do you think your requirements are any different than your competitor's? Our ideal candidate is energetic with strong interpersonal skills, has proven management and leadership skills and loves the outdoors. What's the strongest skill you require in a Mosquito Squad candidate? The ability to manage and organize – with the energy and passion to lead a small business. Describe the working environment of your franchisees. Is your environment typical of other companies in the outdoor pest control industry? The business is typically based in a home office. Franchisees hire technicians and oversee this route based business. We are not typical in that we do not require a retail location. Why has Mosquito Squad been successful? We have been successful because we provide a needed service that works incredibly well, in the rapidly expanding outdoor living area by helping our clients achieve their lifestyle goals. What advice would you give someone interested in buying a franchise in the outdoor pest control industry? Due diligence is key in any important decision or investment. Therefore, carefully completing all the steps in our franchise discovery and award process is key. When individuals do this, we are confident an informed and financially sound decision can be made. We are also confident that this decision will lead you to Mosquito Squad. How much experience in the outdoor pest control industry should a franchisee candidate have should they consider buying a franchise? None is required, but in a few states, candidates may require some related industry experience to meet the local licensing requirements. We fully train and field support all franchisees.
