Creativity still possible in franchising

Posted on October 27, 2010 by Stacey Fousse

Among the most important aspects to any franchisee's success is the ability to think outside the box. By creating an original way to market a product, those who have purchased a franchise can put their own spin on the brand and hopefully drive more customers to their stores.

According to one recent article in Entrepreneur magazine, for years franchisees have been making a large impact, despite the constraints of the parent brand. According to business startup expert Geoff Williams, putting a unique spin on a franchise concept can lead to an increase in profits.

"Franchisees can push back and go beyond the blueprint to do some customization geared to their local market and to their own tastes," wrote Williams. "And often such entrepreneurial innovation and adaptation is encouraged - and even applauded - by the front office. It also can make the difference between an exceptionally well-run and profitable enterprise with sizzle and one that merely plods along."

While few people think of owning a franchise as a creative means of business, many would be surprised by the ways in which franchisees can customize their stores.
