Entrepreneurs find security by becoming franchisees![]() Posted on July 09, 2010 by Franchise Gator Admin Starting a business is a dream come true for many people all over the United States. The independence that comes with being an entrepreneur is very appealing for the ambitious and motivated - yet the results are often mixed. Many find the idea of owning a franchise a more secure option. Two former entrepreneurs, Craig Schumacher and Steve Currier, have found life as franchisees a more stable way to operate a business. According to AllBusiness.com, after owning and operating a fitness club for more than 10 years, the men were forced to change their business plans because of economic conditions. "We made the transition from entrepreneurs to franchisees because the franchise concept had already been developed and the infrastructure was in place," said Currier in an interview with the website. The founder of Franchise Online University, Joel Libava told AllBusiness.com that it was important for entrepreneurs who make the transition to franchisees to not get in the way of an established business structure. While many have found new ideas useful when starting a business from scratch, Libava says that too much new input can "take them out of the game." When franchises do struggle, it is up to the franchisor to address why the issues are taking place. Steve Olson, a consultant for Franchise Update, recently wrote that "some franchisors tend to sweep these owners under the rug, hoping they will somehow go away by themselves." A proactive approach to under-performing franchises is always a good way to help the location succeed.
