Expert: think carefully before picking a franchise![]() Posted on July 29, 2010 by Franchise Gator Admin When attempting to start a franchise, there are many things that entrepreneurs need to be aware of. According to one franchising expert, even though franchises have a higher rate of success than other businesses, there are still many things that potential franchisees must do in order to achieve success.Hal Theiste, a franchising expert for The Pilot newspaper, recently wrote that given all the choices one has and the amount of money that goes into opening a franchise, people need to put a lot of time and effort into figuring out which franchises will be the most profitable. Because of the often strict language in franchise agreements, franchisees find themselves with the need to follow the rules after the purchase. "Franchise owners also have no special legal protection after they purchase the business," Theiste writes. "The Uniform Franchise Operating Circular protects the buyer before the sale, but after it's signed, the franchisee is legally required to abide by the rules and requirements in the franchise agreement." Opening a franchise has many advantages, and while many businessmen and women find success, the decision should not be made lightly. By studying the area proposed location and habits of those who live there, franchisees who make educated decisions are more likely to make money.
