Franchising advice from SBA-sponsored nonprofit organization

Posted on October 11, 2010 by Franchise Gator Admin

According to a recent article from a nonprofit business advice organization, while franchising is a great way to find success in the business world, it is not necessarily an foolproof way to be financially secure.

SCORE, a nonprofit group associated with the U.S. Small Business Administration, recently wrote that among the most important things for small business owners to consider are the financial obligations that come immediately following the decision to purchase a franchise. In an article for the Desert Sun's Business Plus section, SCORE says that the upfront costs can be daunting.

"The upfront cost of buying the franchise is crucial, of course," wrote a representative of SCORE for the newspaper, "But also how much you'll pay for the continuing right to operate the business and what products or services you will be required to buy from the franchisor."

According to its official website, SCORE is the "premier source of free and confidential small business advice for entrepreneurs" and franchisees. The organization has 350 offices around the United States, all of which provide free counseling.
