Snap Fitness hires new franchise expert to expand on U.S. success

After growing rapidly across the United States to more than 1,200 locations in just its first seven years, the Snap Fitness franchise is looking to spread its wings across the globe and has hired Wes Tang as an international development expert.

Tang won’t be breaking into totally new territory, though, as Snap Fitness already has 187 locations either already open or coming soon in Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.

"Snap Fitness has been a company that I have kept an eye on for years," Tang said. "I know that this model can be taken into other markets, not just next door to Cleveland, but next door to countries like Germany, Brazil, China and many more."

Tang worked for Red Wing Shoe Company and Dairy Queen before coming to Snap Fitness, and brings more than 20 years of experience.

“[Tang] has the brand development know-how, background and abilities to build the brand,” said Snap Fitness founder and CEO Peter Taunton.

Snap Fitness was named one of the fastest-growing franchises by Inc. Magazine in 2009, and offers financing assistance. The first five centers in the United Kingdom are set to open soon.
