The Zoo Health Club hosts charity event benefiting children

The communities of Broward and Palm Beach Counties recently gathered at The Zoo Health Club franchise in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and raised more than $60,000 for children in need.

The “Spin-A-Thon” is a 360-minute, marathon-style event in which community members ride a stationary bicycle. The money raised goes to Kids in Distress, a 30-year-old charity that helps children from abusive or neglectful homes.

The Zoo Health Club near the famous Ft. Lauderdale beach hosted the event. According to the Sun-Sentinel, several corporate groups participated, such as the MHG Marine Benefits insurance company, teammates from the National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers and the Young Professionals in Yachting.

The Kids in Distress fact sheet notes that it helps 7,500 people every year, including providing medical care for children in need.

Claudia McCormick, the vice president of marketing and development for Kids in Distress, told the paper that the event surpassed its goal of $50,000.

"We are so grateful to the organizing committee for hosting and coordinating an event that produced so much community excitement and involvement," McCormick said to the news source.

The Zoo Health Club has nine locations across the country, with four more clubs soon to open.
