Fast and simple to use, the system can be administered by unlicensed staff allowing dentists to spend their time more productively.

WhiteScienceLaboratories, the USA market leader in teeth whitening for use by non-dentists, announces a new product line for dental professionals. \"Our new Artisté professional whitening system works well and is very easy to use,\" stated George Nelson, president. \"In fact, it’s so easy to use, the process can be completed by unlicensed staff, such as a clerk or assistant, freeing the dentist to spend his or her time on activities that generate higher billings or build the practice. So this is not just a teeth whitener; it’s a recipe for greater success.\"

The product line includes a pre-conditioner, 20-minute bleaching treatment, and a 90-second finishing rinse. A second or third 20-minute bleaching treatment is optional but not required for most cases.

The pre-conditioner utilizes a specially-prepared gel that conditions the enamel to make it more receptive to the action of hydroxyl radicals, resulting in faster bleaching with greater effectiveness. The pre-conditioner is the product of very recent developments that included evaluating a number of compounds in variations. Each trial was conducted against placebos in blind tests. Compounds were tracked by assigning letters to the compound bases and numbers to each variation. A total of 39 different compounds were prototyped and tested. The compound with the highest ranked consistency was the twelfth variation in the first compound base, enumerated as alpha. Consequently, the selected compound became known as Alpha-12.

\"The Alpha-12 pre-conditioner opens an entirely new era in high-speed whitening. In our tests we were able to match or exceed results derived with one-hour and multi-session treatments with a single, 20-minute treatment,\" Nelson stated.

\"We now have a complete and thorough process,\" he continued. \"We pre-condition the teeth to make them more receptive to the bleaching process, then use a bleach in a form-fitting tray that fits any bite instantly — no impressions required. This is done by using a soft-plastic mouthpiece lined with special foam impregnated with the bleaching gel. Simply positioning the mouthpiece and pressing it against the anterior bite surfaces creates a tight fit that is actually more precise than can be achieved with impressions, since it is a real-time, real-place fit. This adds pressure to the bleaching process, which research has shown is one of five factors necessary for successful bleaching.

\"The gel-impregnated mouthpiece should be left in place for 20 minutes, and can be repeated for challenging patients. Best results are achieved with a blue-spectrum light (430-520nm wavelength) that also generates moderate heat. The Artisté compound can be used with any light meeting this specification. For practices that do not have such a light White Science offers the DayLight 5K2 which not only generates blue light for bleaching, but also has an inspection mode that emits 5000K spectra (daylight equivalent). This feature is ideal for taking before and after bleaching measurements and for shade matching for composites and appliances.

\"The third part of the process,\" Nelson continued, \"is our Brilliance finishing rinse. The patient rinses for 90 seconds with a pre-measured dose. This brings the enamel back to its quiescent condition, allowing the mouth to recover quickly.
