Bits, Bytes & Bots programs are in full swing in Hong Kong!

Posted on July 25, 2007 by Bill Dube

Ivan Lau has been extremely busy since the first day he found Bits, Bytes & Bots on Franchise Gator in January.  Since then he has diligently prepared for the opening of his technology education store in Hong Kong, which came to fruition in early June. Just as the U.S. Bits, Bytes & Bots franchises were busy preparing for the first weeks of summer camp, the Hong Kong franchise had the Grand Opening of its Above Sci Tech store, which took place on Saturday, June 2.  A six foot tall NXT robot has been on display in the front window ever since!  Bits, Bytes & Bots robot, game creation and movie classes are all available to students at this location, as well as a few non Bits, Bytes & Bots classes.

At the Grand Opening event, the robot activities received the best response, followed by movie making.  It seems that it may take some time for the game creation classes to be as well received since parents there are very worried about the amount of time that their children spend playing computer games.  This sounds familiar since many parents in the U.S. are concerned with this also!  Parents in Hong Kong, though, are not yet convinced of the value of our game creation classes.  It will be interesting to see how long it takes for perceptions to change.

Due to differences in parent perceptions and expectations related to what children should learn outside of school in Hong Kong, Ivan has chosen to name his classes Multi-Intelligence Series (Robotics), Creative Potential Series (Game Creation), and Information Technology Series (Movie Making).  He also chose to use the phrase “FUNdamental Technology Education for future leaders” to appeal to parents that want to help their children get ahead in their education and be prepared for their future in a career.  Due to high demand of some BBB classes this summer, he has added more to the schedule!  The fact that the curriculum is from the U.S. seems to add value to the programs.

Ivan has received many requests for pre-school age LEGO® robotics programs, as well requests for something that students can take home with them after taking a robotics class.  BBB corporate is working on solutions to both topics.  To learn more about what is going on with Bits, Bytes & Bots Hong Kong, check out their website at: http://AovST.com.
