Commissioner, Senator Elect, Military, Tuskegee Airman and Parents Become Elementary Educators for a Day![]() Posted on April 11, 2008 by Bill Dube Community Continues to Show Its Commitment to Education through Charter School Last year Kid’s Community College® Charter School earned national recognition from The Center for Education Reform in Washington, DC for its activities during National Education Week. This year parent and community support continued to reflect a strong dedication to the private preschool and public charter school. Week long festivities included visits from Senator-Elect Rhonda Storms, Hillsborough County Commissioner Thomas Scott, Tuskegee Airman Colonel George Brown, KC-135R Tanker Pilot Lieutenant Doi from the 91st Air Refueling Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, a tour of a luxury RV from Lazy Days RV and numerous parent volunteers. “It’s great to see so many important, busy people take time out to remind our students that education matters. That they [the students] matter,” commented Director Jeff Baker. “The students were thrilled to learn about the different professions and history represented. It’s one thing to read about something or overhear someone talking about an important part of our history, but it’s something all together different when the message is being passionately delivered by those who made that history.” “Kid’s Community College® prides itself on diversity in education and a differentiated approach to instruction,” added Founder and CEO Tim Kilpatrick. “Imagine a lesson plan that includes teaching students about the importance of politics and voting, taking them offsite to an actual voting site to do a mock vote and concluding it with classroom visits from actual candidates. It brings the lesson to life, makes it real and instructs to a multitude of learning modalities.” Senator Storms, a previous educator, Tuskegee Airman Colonel George Brown and the RV were big hits with the students. “To be able to actually meet Colonel Brown and have him share with us first hand the historical experience of integrating the U.S. Air Force sends a strong message to all of our students that their potential is limitless. Combine that with the large number of parents that took time off to share their professions with our students and you have something quite priceless when it comes to educating young minds,” concluded Kilpatrick. Education Week festivities concluded with students coming to school dressed as whatever they wanted to be when they grow up, many of whom came dressed as their favorite role models - Educators. Kid’s Community College® is an accredited institution of higher learning for early learners and has three campuses in two locations – Riverview and FishHawk Ranch.
