Computer Explorers Introduces New Programming Language at National Conference
Houston TX – COMPUTER EXPLORERS, a company dedicated to technology learning, introduced Scratch, a new programming language which makes it easier for students to create their own animated stories, video games and interactive art during its Annual International Conference April 25 – 27, 2008 in Houston, TX. “I am very pleased that COMPUTER EXPLORERS is helping to introduce Scratch to students around the world”, said Mitch Resnick, Professor of Learning Research at MIT Media Lab and director of the group that developed Scratch. “Scratch is designed to help young people develop 21st Century learning skills and is a natural fit in the COMPUTER EXPLORERS programs.” “Mitch Resnick and his team presented PicoCricket to our franchise system during our 2007 conference and we were very excited to have his team return this year. COMPUTER EXPLORERS classes have taught students since 1989 to interact with computers. Our students today live and will work in a digital age. We are providing the opportunity for them to express themselves creatively, develop logical thinking, and understand the new technology they will encounter in their everyday lives”, declared Deb Evans, President, COMPUTER EXPLORERS. Research shows the more we use information, the better we retain it. COMPUTER EXPLORERS emphasizes classroom and life lessons, while teaching children software and technology skills. COMPUTER EXPLORERS K-12 programs reinforce the core curriculum of public and private schools and meet or exceed National Educational Technology Standards. In addition, students may experiment with computers, robots, digital microscopes, and explore alternative energy sources. "Scratch is a project of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab." About COMPUTER EXPLORERS In 1984, COMPUTER EXPLORERS was founded by educators to give all children access to quality technology education. Today, COMPUTER EXPLORERS is one of the fastest growing children’s educational franchises in the United States, reaching more than 25,000 children per week at nearly 1,000 locations across the United States and internationally. Based in Houston, COMPUTER EXPLORERS is part of the International Center for Entrepreneurial Development, Inc., one of the world’s largest international alliances of printing, communications, and education franchises.
