National High School Football Powerhouse Turns To The Pro's Off-Season Sports Training

Velocity Sports Performance Anaheim Facility Named Official Performance Training Partner of Mater Dei High School Football Team

ALISO VIEJO, CA Velocity Sports Performance, specializing in advanced sports performance training for athletes of all ages and skill levels, today announced that they are the official training partner for the Mater Dei High School Football team.  Training will be conducted onsite at the school’s new, multi-use athletic facility featuring state-of-the-art field turf specially designed to reduce sports injuries. Velocity Sports Performance will train the high school athletes three days a week during the off-season in key pillars of athletic performance including acceleration, multi-direction and maximum velocity.

“We are constantly researching the best means to enhance speed and agility in our athletes.  This is why Mater Dei Football chose to work with Velocity Sports Performance,” said Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson.  “We know they are capable of preparing our athletes to compete at their highest level”.

Mater Dei Football has enjoyed a tradition and reputation as a nationally acclaimed football powerhouse. Since the 1950's the Mater Dei Monarchs have dominated the high school football scene, winning nine State championships. In 2005, Sport Illustrated rated Mater Dei 6th on its “Best High School Athletic Programs” list (2nd in California).  It is one of only two high schools in the country to produce two Heisman Trophy winners including John Huarte – Notre Dame – 1964, and Matt Leinart – USC – 2004. There have been countless individual honors and numerous players that have gone onto compete at the college and professional level.

Mater Dei is a private Catholic, Co-Education Secondary School located in Orange County, CA, and has approximately 2,300 students making it one of the largest Catholic high schools in the United States.

Well known for athletics, the Mater Dei Monarchs Football team has received many honors. The Mater Dei Football program was recognized by Student Sports Magazine as one of the top ten football programs in the nation.  Mater Dei Football offers five teams - varsity, junior varsity, sophomores and two freshmen teams. Mater Dei Coach Bruce Rollinson was named “Coach of the Year” by USA Today in 1994 and 1996, making him only the second California high school football coach to be honored in such high esteem.  Some other notable alumni include Matt Grootegoed, recipient of the 2004 Dick Butkus Award and Colt Brennan, winner of the 2006 Sammy Baugh Trophy.
