Panther All-Pro Steve Smith Joins Velocity Sports Performance Team

Community-Minded Athlete to Become Co-Owner in Charlotte Training Center to Help Youth, Student-Athlete’s and Adults Improve Athletic Performance

CHARLOTTE, NC— Carolina Panther Steve Smith and Velocity Sports Performance today announced that the All-Pro wide receiver would become part owner of Velocity Sports Performance current Charlotte location and future prospective locations in the North Carolina market.

Velocity Sports Performance offers Charlotte-area athletes of all ages advanced sports performance training, helping them increase speed, power and agility, while preventing sports-related injuries.  Velocity Sports Performance is committed to helping athletes of all ages in every sport, at any skill level to improve their athleticism and confidence.  Athletes of any caliber can reach their potential because our scientifically designed training programs maximize human sports performance.  Velocity Sports Performance offers athletes from age eight through adult, semi-private and team-based sports performance training designed to help them achieve their individual athletic goals.

Smith is a three time NFL Pro Bowl participant and one of only three athletes to accomplish the NFL’s Receiving Triple Crown, in addition to holding many other records for the Panthers.  Over the past seven seasons he has been deeply involved in numerous off the field activities in support of the community, including his foundation with Del Curry and Jay Bilas “Athletes United For Youth”, a charity organization that provides educational, programmatic, and structured support to youth housed within under-served communities.

He first became aware of Velocity Sports Performance when he took part in off-season training designed to maintain his All-Pro edge, and will be instrumental in helping communicate the benefits of Velocity’s sports performance training to Charlotte-area athletes participating in any type of sports.

“I look forward to helping to improve the performance of area athletes,” said Smith.  “Working with the team at Velocity to provide training opportunities to the next generation of athletes from the Charlotte area is a tremendous opportunity.  The type of training made available at Velocity is of the caliber of what professional athletes receive.  I wish that this type of training had been available to me earlier.  Velocity  Sports Performance helps young people train earlier, prevent injuries, and meet their dreams of playing sports, all while putting the ‘fun’ back into their activities.”

“We’re delighted to have an individual of Steve Smith’s caliber join the Velocity Team and serve as a role model for our athletes”, stated Jeff Krupa, owner.  “Not only is Steve at the top of his profession due to his dedication and tremendous work ethic, but he is also incredibly dedicated to giving back to the community.  We look forward to Steve’s passion in building the Velocity concept both in Charlotte and surrounding areas as we expand and grow.”

The 21,000 square foot Velocity Sports Performance facility is located at 10345 Nations Ford Road in Charlotte and includes an indoor sprint track, indoor turf field, half court basketball area, viewing area for parents and top of the line strength training equipment.  In addition to programs offered for youth athletes age 8 through 18, clients can take advantage of the facility’s adult fitness and elite programs especially designed for active athletes. The center also features a large screen video, which can be used by coaches to review film and wireless Internet access in the viewing area for parents.   Velocity Sports Performance requires its coaches to have a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science or have played at the professional level.  Several of Charlotte’s Velocity Sports coaches are former professional athletes.

Training in small groups allows more personal, one-on-one attention between coach and athlete.  This ensures that each athlete will be able to get the specific instruction they need in order to improve.
