Velocity Sports Performance Athletes Face-Off In Nfl Nfc Championship Game

Posted on January 30, 2008 by

MAHWAH, NJ – Ryan Grant, running back for the Green Bay Packers, and Justin Tuck, defensive lineman for the New York Giants, have played exceptional seasons and find themselves facing off in this year’s NFC Championship game. The road Grant and Tuck took to reach the level they are at is an exceptional story of motivation, focus and training at Velocity Sports Performance in Mahwah, NJ.

In 2006, Grant almost bled to death when he cut his left forearm after slipping on a wet floor at a party. Breaking through a glass table, his artery, nerves and tendons were damaged. This injury forced Grant to miss the entire season with implications that he may never play again.

Grant began his road back to the NFL with Velocity Sports Performance in Mahwah, NJ under the supervision of Sean Donellan, the Sports Performance Director for both the Mahwah and Closter locations. According to Donellan, “I was extremely impressed with the focus and motivation Grant displayed while rehabilitating his injuries and training for the upcoming season. When he came to us, he was post‐surgery and weighing about 212 pounds. After training with us for over a year, he entered this season at 225 pounds, 4percent body fat and running at the same speed he ran during the 2005 NFL Combine [4.4 seconds].”

Grant was traded to the Packers in September of this season and did not see significant playing time for the first six games of the season (six carries for 17 yards); however, after injury to the Packers starting running back, Grant was given a chance in Week 8 and the Packers never looked back. Grant has accumulated 939 yards on 182 carries and eight touchdowns in the final 10 games. Grant recently led the Packers to the NFC Championship game with 201 yards and three touchdowns against the Seattle Seahawks.

Trying to stop Grant on the other side of the ball this weekend will be Notre Dame roommate Justin Tuck of the New York Giants. In 2006, Tuck missed most of the season after sustaining a Liz Frank fracture in his foot. Tuck joined his former teammate Grant in training and preparation for next season at Velocity Sports Performance in Mahwah, NJ.

According to Donellan, “Coming off of foot surgery, we had to progress with Tuck a little slower and focus on the mobility of his hips and upper body strength. His athleticism for his size is extremely impressive and his running mechanics are impeccable. He consistently goes up against offensive linemen that are 50pounds heavier than he is, but is able to perform because of his athleticism and mechanics.”

Tuck returned to training camp in great shape and found himself back in a starting position for the 2007 season and having a career year. Tuck ranked second on the team with 10.0 sacks for the year and fifth on the team with 65 total tackles.

Both players look to continue their spectacular season after the long rehabilitation and off season training they participated in at Velocity Sports Performance.
