Three Quick Tips Before Buying a Franchise
There are a lot of factors that go into choosing the right franchise, like location, time, and capital. Maybe you’re having trouble deciding what franchise is right for you, so here are three quick tips you should consider when looking for a franchise.
- Visit with the Franchisor at their Headquarters- Although this may be difficult if you’re on opposite sides of the US, I would suggest meeting with a franchisor at their headquarters if they allow you to (You could also meet at a regional office). Visiting the franchisor allows you to talk with the staff and owners in person; you’ll also be able to see how their HQ is run. After meeting with the franchisor and getting a better idea of how the company is run, you’ll have a better sense of the company and if they’re a good fit for you.
- Talk with Existing franchisees- Spend time meeting (or calling) existing franchisees; get their opinion on the franchise, training, support, marketing, and advertising. Existing franchisees are a great source of information because they are already running the business you’re looking into.
- Due diligence- It’s a good idea to research a franchise and find out what others have to say about it. Look up their website, read articles, read news, and check forums. You’ll ultimately want to get a better understanding of what it’s like to deal with the franchisor on a day-to-day basis.
