FUEL CELL SENSORS:
Fuel Cell sensors generate a small current when alcohol is present. The current is converted by a circuit into a BAC reading. The advantage of fuel cell technology is it uses little power and is ready almost immediately.

SEMI CONDUCTOR SENSORS:

Semi conductor sensors use a small ceramic bead heated to a high temperature. When alcohol is present the electrical resistance of the sensor changes and a circuit measures the change and converts it into a BAC reading. Semi conductors use a lot of power and take a long time warming up.
