Above the Noise
Often I am asked how we came up with the name Upside Group for our franchise consulting company. It is an interesting story and actually has much to do with franchise web portals. Having worked at some large franchise companies, I had seen the franchise business from the inside and when I decided to start Upside Group there were some important decisions to make.

We knew we'd offer franchise marketing, but would we be franchise operations-focused or more franchise development " also called franchise sales centric? Would we focus more on the franchisor or franchisee side of the industry?
We performed a plethora of research on the industry, looked at competitors, trends and certainly what was needed within the industry. At first it just led to confusion. Certainly we saw gaps on what competitors were providing and some trends but there was just so much noise. What I mean by noise is, there were a lot of franchises blasting out their message in so many different ways. At one point someone said, "There is just so much noise how would any prospective franchisee know where to start?" How would they begin to uncover the type of franchise opportunity that might fit their budget, interests and other needs? The phrase was uttered "Maybe we should call ourselves Above the Noise" and help interested franchise prospects sift through the myriad of franchise opportunities creating all this noise! Not wanting to be mistaken as DJ's we decided to go with Upside Group Franchise Consulting but luckily someone else has helped stifle the noise.
Franchise web portals like Franchise Gator " one of the original and still one of the most respected franchise portals " offers candidates the ability to review hundreds of franchise opportunities with just a few clicks of the mouse.
By allowing prospects the opportunity to sort by industry, investment level, growth level, geographic and other criteria; a franchise prospect can quickly narrow their search and begin to hone in on a possible new business opportunity. If a prospect begins the process of purchasing a new business by making a needs and wants list of criteria and then find themselves on Franchise Gator, it should be very easy to utilize the search tools and begin to further narrow the opportunities. The website will offer investment levels, royalty and other ongoing fees as well as a basic summary of the franchise opportunity. The website may also offer some new suggestions you may not have thought of that are related to the type of offerings you have shown interest in. All these tools help you to find the best matched opportunity while keeping you "Above the Noise."
