Part of learning how to franchise a business is knowing the pulse of the marketing world. By knowing how to accurately reach and communicate with an audience, your business or franchise will be more successful. Currently, Facebook has almost 900 million users. Meaning, with a large audience on one platform, it is important to be able to communicate properly. Recently, Facebook has switched all accounts to a new format titled Timeline. Timeline offers new capabilities for companies and franchises. Below are a few tips on how to better market your franchise on Facebook Timeline.
Franchise consultants and franchisors alike have a lot to be excited about for the new features of Facebook Timeline. Each provides new advantages and possibilities for franchise marketing. Specifically, accounts now have a cover photo, the landing page has changed and statuses and updates can be "pinned" to the top of a profile.
Cover photos act as a large banner at the top of a company's Timeline. The suggested dimensions for photos are 851 x 315 pixels. Try to find a photo that fits well without becoming distorted by the long horizontal length and constrained vertical height.
Customized landing pages are gone with Timeline. Now, all visitors will come to the wall of your Timeline when they click on your page. Unfortunately, this means that franchisors and franchisees using information collection tools on customized landing pages can no longer do this.
"Pin" a Status
Important status updates can be "pinned" to the top of your Timeline for seven days.
The cover photo is a way to show site visitors what your franchise is all about through a visual statement. This picture should explain the essence of your franchise. Also, Facebook does not allow companies to use a call to action, sales pitch or any other obvious marketing in the cover photos. Great cover photos serve to draw in page visitors and encourage further exploration of the franchise profile.
Timeline allows for profiles to have up to 12 tabs. Tabs serve as applications added to your franchise profile page. Only the first four tabs will show, in order to reach the other eight tabs, Facebook users must scroll through. Meaning, the most important four tabs should be first. Franchise consultants give examples of tabs for business that include:
- Map of local locations
- Deals or promotions or coupons
- Photos and videos of company actions
- Company updates
- Community outreach
- Polls and questions
Mark Important Dates
Timeline allows businesses to mark important company dates. This is especially useful for franchises. With an overall franchise page, you will be able to mark the date of each grand opening and important company experiences. Facebook also allows companies to back track and add past dates. With this new format you will be able to tell the story of how to franchise a business and how your business has grown. Other examples can include past logo changes, company stock changes, introduction of new positions, company anniversaries, volunteerism, new product creations and other pertinent company accomplishments.
