Attending
\na Franchise<\/a> Expo is the perfect opportunity to get your questions answered in
\nregards to what is involved in opening and operating your own Franchise. <\/p>\n

To make
\nthe most of your time at the show, you should go prepared knowing exactly what things
\nyou want to learn.   <\/p>\n

Use this
\ntip sheet as a guideline to get you started:<\/p>\n

–       What does a ‘day in the life’ of
\nthe Franchise owner look like?<\/p>\n

–       Is this a full or part time
\nopportunity?<\/p>\n

–       Do I need to be an owner\/operator
\nor can I be an absentee owner? <\/p>\n

–       Are there any special education
\nand\/or experience requirements?<\/p>\n

–       Is territory exclusivity
\nimportant for this concept? <\/p>\n

–       As a Franchisee, would I get
\nfirst rights at developing neighboring regions? <\/p>\n

–       How many years has the Franchise
\nbeen in business?  <\/p>\n

–       How many years selling
\nFranchises?  How many Franchisees do you
\nhave? <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

If your
\ninterest is piqued – you could then engage in questions regarding financial
\ncommitments. <\/p>\n

–       What is the initial upfront
\nFranchise Fee? <\/p>\n

–       How much are the royalties?  Is there a royalty free period? <\/p>\n

–       What can I expect for a total
\n‘all in’ turkey investment? <\/p>\n

–       How much of that do I need in hard
\ncash? <\/p>\n

–       Do you assist with financing? <\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Assuming
\nyou are comfortable with the financial requirements, you may want to move on to
\nfurther questions like:<\/p>\n

–       Do you assist with real estate
\nselection?<\/p>\n

–       What type of management training
\ndo you provide? <\/p>\n

–       What support do you offer for
\ntraining support staff?  <\/p>\n

–       What type of person have you
\nfound to be your most successful Franchisee<\/a>?<\/p>\n

–       What skills qualities do they
\npossess? <\/p>\n

–       Is there any ongoing litigation
\nwithin the Franchise company?<\/p>\n

The next
\nstep would be to ask the Franchisor to contact you outside of the show
\nenvironment so you can talk in further depth. 
\nThe exhibiting company will likely have some printed materials that you
\nwould take away to review.  This will
\ngive you time to digest the information and come up with further
\nquestions.  <\/p>\n
