I am commonly asked share my<br \/>\n\u201csecrets\u201d to success. If you Google \u201csecrets to success\u201d, you\u2019ll get 145<br \/>\nmillion responses in about two-thirds of a second! Moreover, this is such a<br \/>\npopular search term that Google has assigned pattern search phrases for it<br \/>\n(success in life, business, living, etc.). I\u2019d like to share my 3-step approach<br \/>\nto success, and as with all things opinionated, your mileage may vary:<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>1. Make your bed!<\/strong><br \/>\n<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">It may sound strange, but have you ever wondered why every<br \/>\nmilitary cadet is required to make their beds and routinely has their<br \/>\nbed-making skills inspected and challenged? Here\u2019s the secret: self-discipline<br \/>\nmatters.&nbsp; If you make it a habit to make<br \/>\nyour bed every morning, then you have accomplished something tangible right out<br \/>\nof the gate. This provides a positive feeling and leads to the rest of your<br \/>\ndaily tasks. The compound effect of this simply action is truly powerful.&nbsp; What better way to start your day than with a<br \/>\nmeasurable accomplishment!<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>2. Get to work early!<\/strong><br \/>\n<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">As <a title=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/www.afranchisecoach.com\">a franchise coach<\/a> I hear many business people brag about<br \/>\n14-16 hour days.&nbsp; Some even discuss their<br \/>\nweekend hours. It almost seems like a masochistic badge of honor to spend more<br \/>\nhours at the office, all in an effort to show they are not intimidated by hard<br \/>\nwork. Guess what? Nobody cares.&nbsp; The<br \/>\nissue is not the number of hours you put in but rather, when you put those<br \/>\nhours in, especially if you work in a leadership position.&nbsp; Show up before your employees and leave on<br \/>\ntime. Everyone will know that you were first in the office, put a full day and<br \/>\ngot your work done.&nbsp; Stay late and<br \/>\neveryone will think, \u201cLook, that poor guy has to stay late again.&nbsp; He is always behind and trying to catch up in<br \/>\nthe evenings.\u201d&nbsp; If you are the owner,<br \/>\nbeing first in has the added advantage of knowing when your workers actually<br \/>\narrive.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>3. Learn to Listen &amp; Listen to Learn!<\/strong><br \/>\n<o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Someone a whole lot wiser than me once shared this great<br \/>\npiece of advice. Once you figure out that you don\u2019t actually know everything,<br \/>\nyou\u2019ll start to open your mind.&nbsp; This is<br \/>\nthe first step in learning and will serve you well as you venture into greater<br \/>\nand more complex business dealings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">While these three nuggets of wisdom may seem simple and<br \/>\nstraightforward, once you take the time to actually integrate them into your<br \/>\neveryday life you will start to see a difference. At the very least, you\u2019ll 1.)<br \/>\nhave accomplished at least one thing that day, 2.) feel better and find you are<br \/>\nmore efficient by getting to work earlier (and your commute may even be<br \/>\neasier!), and 3.) you may just learn something new.
