These would-be<br \/>\nentrepreneurs buy and read countless \u201cself-help\u201d books and articles designed to<br \/>\nguide or point them in the right direction. But in the end, the answer is not<br \/>\nin books or articles.&nbsp; The magic<br \/>\ningredient is you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\">As <a href=\"http:\/\/www.afranchisecoach.com\/\">a franchise<br \/>\ncoach<\/a>, I am fortunate to be friends with many successful business<br \/>\nowners. If you could dissect the mind of successful entrepreneurs,<br \/>\nyou would find a common ingredient: courage. Successful entrepreneurs have the<br \/>\ncourage to take measured risks, courage to move in a different direction,<br \/>\ncourage to take advice, courage to invest their savings in their own abilities,<br \/>\nand courage to sometimes go it alone. It takes courage to be self-employed,<br \/>\ntotally reliant on your own resources, and to be 100% responsible for the<br \/>\nresults. In the end, the courage to take measured risk and to deal with uncertainty<br \/>\nis directly connected to your ability to harness fear.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\">A little fear, harnessed the right way, is exceptionally<br \/>\npowerful. &nbsp;A very wise man extolled the<br \/>\nvirtues of \u201c<em>doing at least one thing each<br \/>\nday that just scares you.<\/em>\u201d&nbsp; This is<br \/>\ngood advice and is the first step on the road to harnessing the power of fear. Everyone<br \/>\nhas a certain degree of fear when they do something new.&nbsp; Successful entrepreneurs use this fear as a<br \/>\nmotivator to identify risks and prepare for success.&nbsp; This is a learned behavior and does not come<br \/>\nnaturally. In fact, in the primal part of our brain, the part that was formed<br \/>\neons ago, there still survives the \u2018self-preservation, fight or flight<em>\u2019<\/em> programming. Training ourselves to<br \/>\nmanage this compulsive survival instinct is hard work. Every successful<br \/>\nentrepreneur has mastered this.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\">The courage to harness fear to drive successful outcomes can<br \/>\nhappen at any time in our lives. For some, this happens as a child.&nbsp; Our parents have more influence on our future<br \/>\nsuccess than many would like to admit and we learn these skills through<br \/>\nobservation and trial and error while growing up.&nbsp; For others, it happens as a teen or as an<br \/>\nadult through conscious action and focus.&nbsp;<br \/>\nFor others, it never happens.&nbsp; Fear<br \/>\nwill always control their actions.&nbsp; This<br \/>\nlast group will always find fault with an idea.&nbsp;<br \/>\nThis fear leads directly to the \u2018flight\u2019 instinct.&nbsp; Regardless of the quality of an opportunity,<br \/>\nthese folks will always avoid uncertainty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\">Once you harness your reaction to risk, stress and fear,<br \/>\nyou will start to develop courage. You will first begin to recognize<br \/>\nopportunity and then you will gain the confidence and courage to take advantage<br \/>\nof the opportunities.&nbsp; Finally, you will<br \/>\nbe able look in the mirror and say, \u201cYes, I know I can do this and regardless<br \/>\nof what happens, I have the ability and skills to handle it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\">If you were lucky enough to have grown up in a household<br \/>\nwith successful, entrepreneurially-minded parents sharing their knowledge with<br \/>\nyou, then you\u2019re lucky enough. You learned how to handle courage and fear as a<br \/>\nchild and it is second nature to you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNoSpacing\">If you fall into the other 80% of families, then you\u2019ve<br \/>\ngot some work to do.&nbsp; First you must<br \/>\nlearn to harness your fear and then you will acquire the confidence and courage<br \/>\nit takes to make bold decisions.&nbsp; You are<br \/>\nnever too old or too young to begin training yourself.&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many future entrepreneurs dream of success, and the financial and personal rewards often associated with success.
