Q:What is PostNet?
A:PostNet International Franchise Corporation is the largest and fastest growing privately held company in the postal and business services industry. In just over 10 years, PostNet has licensed more than 850 franchisees in 44 states in the U.S. and abroad. The stores offer products and services tailored to meet the needs of small and medium-sized business owners and busy consumers. Products and services include copying and printing, digital computer services, packing and shipping, and a host of related business and personal services.
Q:How did PostNet get its start?
A:My partner, Brian Spindel, and I started in the industry in 1983 owning, operating, and developing independent mail and parcel centers until 1993 when we began franchising under the PostNet system and trademark.
Q:So, when and how did PostNet evolve and become the company it is now?
A:As an organization, it has always been a part of our culture to evolve with technology and consumer needs. Over the past 10 years, PostNet has evolved from the traditional mail and parcel center to a small business development facility serving the needs of small to medium sized business owners and general consumers. We recently launched an exciting new store design in connection with our strategic plan that includes dynamic technology to make PostNet centers better, faster, and smarter than the competition. Our new store design has been engineered to create a unique and distinctive brand image, provide an environment that empowers customers to shop quickly and easily, and incorporates a bold new color scheme that elevates the perception of professionalism, comfort, and trust. Our reputation has always been that of a company that continues to innovate and create, always keeping our customers' wants and needs top of mind.
Q:So, what's new at PostNet?
A:There is always something new at PostNet! Right now, we are launching one of our biggest moves ever. We've teamed up with eBay and formed a truly unique relationship. The exciting new program is called Trading Post, and the goal is to help people sell their items on eBay. The idea is to make the process easier on the seller. PostNet staff members photograph, inventory, list, and pack and ship items for sellers. Once the items have been shipped, sellers receive a check in the mail from PostNet. The program is currently being tested in about a dozen PostNet locations in California, Nevada, Arizona and Georgia. Following a successful first quarter, the program will be expanded to all of our other domestic locations.
Q:How will you prevent competitors from jumping in and creating similar relationships with eBay?
A:Well, we know that with any good idea, you have to prepare for others to mimic. Our advantage is that we are first movers on a project as significant as this. The relationship, while in its infancy at this point, is exclusive. We will use this time to establish ourselves as experts in the concept, and we'll focus on making that relationship a strong and successful one. We have also developed some compelling technology to support the Trading Post initiative. Eventually, competition will step into the ring, but that's always an issue with a new and innovative business concept and we welcome the opportunity to compete.
Q:How does PostNet achieve such consistent success and growth in the franchise market?
A:Growth comes in the form of both individual and area franchises, and the model for success has been a combination of quality franchisees and extensive training and support from the PostNet World Headquarters in Henderson, Nevada. I also believe that our culture is a powerful determining factor in our growth and why people choose PostNet. There is an incredible amount of mutual confidence and trust throughout this entire organization and we really do operate as one in terms of our passion for the business and commitment to customer service. Our goal is to have a total of 2,000 total franchises over the next three to five years.
Q:Finally, what do you do to balance work?
A:I enjoy flying my Cessna 182 with my wife, Sonia, who is a pilot and got me involved in aviation and spending time with my children Joshua (17), Brandon (15) and Alexandria (7).
