ApexNetwork Physical Therapy - Franchise Q & A

Interview With Jason Baxter Director Of Franchise Operations At Apexnetwork Physical Therapy

How was ApexNetwork originally conceived and started?

We have built and provided physical therapy services for close to 10-years. As we had the chance to reflect upon our growth, what we had learned, and the systems we had put into place, we thought how much more quickly we would have become a successful business if we would have had the knowledge, systems, and support served up on a platter for us to take advantage of. From this time, the franchise concept of ApexNetwork was born.

What was your original vision for ApexNetwork Physical Therapy? How has that changed over time?

Our original vision was to provide quality physical therapy services to our patients at local locations. As we have grown, while maintaining the customer service and quality outcome focus, we have maximized our efficiencies and profitability. Although we continue to own and operate clinics, we wanted to be able to offer the opportunity for others to open their own physical therapy clinics.

What do you believe is the single most important factor when choosing a franchise?

The ability to trust and follow the franchise system and processes for success.

Why should someone choose ApexNetwork over other similar physical therapy franchises?

I would encourage people assessing similar franchise concepts to take a close look at the experience, systems, and support that others offer. We are not new to physical therapy. We have provided physical therapy services for over 15 years and have built a successful business from the ground up. Over the years we have trialed and implemented a number of successful systems and processes that have been proven again and again. The support is second to none. Once you open your doors we are there to provide continued guidance and support to grow and develop your business.

What makes the physical therapy industry attractive?

Physical Therapy is a field of medicine that promotes health and wellness across the life span. There over 10,000 adults turning 50 years old each day who desire to remain active as they age. More adolescent and adults want to be able to return to normal activities more quickly following an injury or surgery. Physical Therapy can help meet these needs.

What types of qualities do you look for in potential franchisees?

We look for individuals who are self motivated, desire to learn and follow the franchise system, who can teach others, and who can market and develop relationships with key players to grow their business.

What do your franchise fees and royalties cover?

The franchise fee covers access to the brand and licensing rights and support services until you open your door including insurance contract negotiation / credentialing, site selection and layout guidance, equipment purchasing and ApexNetwork Management Training to name a few. Once you open your doors, the royalty fees cover ongoing training and support services.

How do territories work for your franchisees?

We assess the population, financial and medical expenditure metrics of a potential territory to determine an appropriate area. A franchisee is then given a protected territory where another franchisee cannot open a location within that established protected territory.

Why has your franchise model been successful?

The therapy business is a fragmented market. We have made available the systems, training, consistencies, and cohesiveness of a successful practice to address this gap.

Where do you see your franchise in 5 years and 10 years?

We see ourselves as the largest provider of physical therapy services in the United States.

What is your favorite advice for new franchisees to help them succeed?

Trust the system, follow the system, and go out and build relationships.

What would you tell potential franchisees that may be nervous about the financial burdens of starting a franchise?

With every business opportunity there is risk. The healthcare sector continues to grow and the services are continually needed. You will have access to some of the best tools and strategies to help move your business forward more quickly than trying to do it on your own.

Can you explain your financial assistance?

We offer franchisees the ability to finance the initial franchise fee. We additionally offer a partnership model, where we can bring additional capital to the table for qualifying individuals.

On average, how long does it take to start a new franchise from the franchisees point of view?

Four to six months.

What was your background and experience before founding this franchise?

Our experience prior to founding the franchise was providing therapy services and owning and operating therapy clinics.

Do you have any franchisee testimonials or success stories that you would like to share?

A franchisee opened a location in rural town in New Mexico. Through the reputation of the treating therapist and the business development efforts of the staff, in less than 4- months they have had to bring on additional treatment providers to keep up with the volume!
