How was Chop Shop Hair Company originally conceived and started?

The Chop Shop was established in the spring of 2005, to service high quality cuts and color in a creative and vibrant atmosphere. The shop was originally developed to identify with the timeless style and capture the essence & fun spirit of Rock 'n' Roll!

Founders and owners, Daniel Hudon and Michael Procter, are the energizing, best friend duo who built the independent salon to be a reputable business known for quality hair service with a fun and retro edge.

What was your original vision for Chop Shop Hair Company? How has that changed over time?

The original vision of the Chop Shop was a place built by misfits to employ misfits and cater to misfits: for anyone who ever felt that they didn't belong, but wished to have quality hair services in un-stuffy non-conformist environment.  It has changed over time by incorporating and embracing complete systems and operations. The Chop Shop, with an ingrained emphasis on customer service and a thorough operation manual, now provides quality yet affordable service to a larger demographic. Instead of being counter culture, we have created our own culture!

What do you believe is the single most important factor when choosing a franchise?

The ability to find joy in it! Passion and dedication are words in which we value.

Attractive? Attractive is what we do!  We add the heart and soul to the billion-dollar beauty industry.  It is fun and fashion forward. We have the ability to be profitable, while still being creative.

Passionate, Committed, financially responsible, and motivated.

What do your franchise fees and royalties cover?

Our franchise fees and royalties will allow our franchise partners to use our logos and our proven systems and operations. Franchise royalties will be used for continual brand building and marketing initiatives, Plus allow us to continue to offer support and further training.

How do territories work for your franchisees?

We look at every market and opportunity on a case by case basis.

Why has the Chop Shop Hair Company model been successful?

The Chop Shop has shown consistent growth and has flourished through some tough economic times. Our operation procedures and manuals are thorough and concise, allowing everybody from the franchisee> to the employee to do there job with confidence and ease. Having a hit reality TV series didn't hurt either!

Where do you see Chop Shop Hair Company in 5 years and 10 years?

We would like to grow the Chop Shop organically. With the right franchise partners in place, we feel we are able to not only have successful franchisees but Chop Shop franchise advocates. In the next 5 years we would like to have at least 10 franchise locations within Canada and be well on our way to establishing the Chop Shop brand thru out the United States. In 10 years we wish to have presence through out North America and globally. All the while remaining consistent, but always willing to improve and grow our business with our Franchise partners in mind.

What is your favorite advice for new franchisees to help them succeed?

Believe!  You have already made a commitment to do something both brave and empowering, be proud that you are making a life, and career for yourself while becoming your own boss!  Learn the balance of freedom and responsibility, as both are enhanced when one becomes their own boss.

What would you tell potential franchisees that may be nervous about the financial burdens of starting a franchise?

"If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!"

Our Franchise model is under $200K so the Franchisee is not put out by high loan payments and it is easier for the Franchisee get their ROI quicker and with confidence. "Nothing ventured, nothing gained!"

On average, how long does it take to start a new Chop Shop Hair Company from the franchisees point of view?

You can have your shop open within 2 to 4 months after becoming a franchisee.

What was your background and experience before founding this franchise?

Daniel Hudon has over 17 years experience in the hair industry, as a stylist, platform artist and educator. Michael Procter has an extensive background in the hospitality industry. He has worked in one of Canada's finest restaurants and has also spent time in the hotel and bar industries.
