Kumon is not tutoring. Yes, you'll help kids overcome challenges but many will stay with
you to complete the entire program, often advancing to working well beyond their grade
level. As you guide them to master math and reading, you'll see them develop lifelong
skills for success like critical thinking, time management, and grit. With excellent
training and support, no teaching experience is needed. We’d love to talk with you to see
if Kumon Franchise is a good fit for you!
Eligibility criteria: Please note, to be a Kumon Franchise owner you must have a bachelor's degree, proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent residency and be available to run your center day-to-day (no absentee owners).
For more than 60 years, Kumon kids have mastered math and reading through an ingeniously devised system of worksheets. Unlike traditional tutoring, kids often stay in Kumon long-term, working their way through the levels of the program. This means your business is built on the stability of committed, loyal families.
As kids progress, they master math and reading, but they also develop traits for success such as critical thinking, perseverance, and time management. It’s habits like these that have parents enrolling multiple kids and telling friends and family about their kids’ successes.
No teaching experience is needed—you’ll be trained to guide kids through the program and you’ll receive the business training you need to create an emotionally and financially rewarding business.
We’re here to support you from your very first request for information, offering a system of success supported by training, materials, and marketing to drive your business.
All applicants need a bachelor’s degree and either citizenship or a green card, in addition to meeting the liquidity requirements of $70,000 and net worth requirements of $150,000.
Beyond that, we look for people who have a desire to develop relationships with families in their community and to see kids succeed, not just in math and reading, but in life.
“The satisfaction that a Kumon instructor gets from helping students is really indescribable. there's no feeling like it when a student comes in that might be struggling, and you can turn their whole educational outlook around. For any potential franchisee out there that is apprehensive, I would just say go with your heart. If you love kids and you want to help kids, then Kumon is a perfect place for you.”
