About Us

Pet Supplies Plus (PSP) is the supermarket for dogs and cats. Pet Supplies Plus has built its reputation by “making it easier for our neighbors to get better products and services for their pets.” With more than 435 locations 33 states, the stores have a streamlined design making it easy to navigate the industry’s widest assortment of natural foods, hard goods and pet services. The company has achieved its success by understanding the unique bond between humans and their pets. Our neighbors experience convenience, value and fun in every store. At Pet Supplies Plus, we’re crazy for pets, too.

Jack Berry and Harry Shallop opened the first Pet Supplies Plus store in 1988 and started franchising them in 1991. While much has changed over the last 30 years including the elevated role pets play in families (Americans will spend over $72 billion dollars in 2018 on pet products) and pet parents wanting more natural pet food for the pets, the emphasis on building a strong local presence where neighbors can expect great selections, superior value, expert advice and top-notch service has not. Pet Supplies Plus now has over 435 stores in 33 states and our average store enjoys sales of over $2.2 million annually.


Our Business Model

Pet Supplies Plus stores are in busy, neighborhood centers preferably with food anchors. Stores range in size from 3,500 – 8,500 square feet in 2nd or 3rd generation space. The more intimate size allows offers our neighbors (who we call customers) convenience in not only in driving/parking for their visit but also once they are inside and offers our owners the ability to offer deliver top-notch neighborly service with a minimal number of team members to manage. Our successful business model provides our franchise owners with:

  • The buying power, product selection and contracts of a big box pet retailer and the ability to provide the neighborly experience of a knowledgeable and caring local pet store.
  • Access to You Click. We Fetch an order online and in-store pick up / order online and deliver from local store program which allows our local owners to serve their neighbors how and when they want
  • Low royalty fees of 2% for the first year and 3% thereafter for the life of the franchise agreement
  • Smaller square footage, significant contributions from landlords and minimal number of employees to manage
  • Available semi-absentee ownership
