Sport Clips - Franchise Q & A

Franchise Qa With Jim Atkinson Sport Clips Haircuts Vice President Of Franchise Development

How was your franchise/opportunity originally conceived and started?

In the early 1990s, Gordon Logan recognized the huge potential, and relative lack of competition, in the men's and boys’ haircut market. He wanted to create a place where guys could take care of one of life’s necessities – a haircut – and say “This is my kind of place; I feel comfortable here” when they walked in the door. Assembling a group of passionate industry professionals, Gordon and his team worked together to develop the unique Sport Clips Haircuts concept we know today.

What was your original vision for your company? How has that changed over time?

While the Sport Clips logo and store design have changed since the first location opened in Austin, Texas in 1993, Gordon’s goal, and Sport Clips’ mission - to provide a “championship haircut experience in an exciting sports-themed environment” - remains the same.

What do you believe is the single most important factor when choosing a franchise?

There must be a passion for the business model and a commitment to excellence!

What makes your industry attractive?

What types of qualities do you look for in potential franchisees?

The franchise fee of $59,500.00 covers the purchase of three licenses which are intended to be built over three years. Royalties are used to pay for the cost of use of the system, support, marks. Etc.

How do territories work for your franchisees?

Each franchise location has a protected trade territory.  Each franchisee moves forward with a reasonable area of preference and they work closely with Sport Clips dedicated real estate team to identify quality sites that align with the Sport Clips business.

Why has your franchise model been successful?

Sport Clips has been successful because of the deeply rooted culture, the core values that drive the business and the highly detailed systematic approach to the men’s hair care vertical.

Where do you see your franchise in 5 years and 10 years?

In five years, Sport Clips will have over 2,200 locations and will continue to be the dominate brand in the men and boys’ haircut industry.  In 10 years, Sport Clips will be approaching 3,000 units and will continue to be a great experience for men and boys in the United States and Canada.
