Industry Q&A with Don Beezley, Sirius Day Spa’s Regional Developer for Chicagoland & Colorado

Provide an overview/ description of your industry.  Include reasons why it’s a great industry to start a business in today.

Everyone is looking for ways to help reduce the stress of their everyday lives. The health and wellness industry has been dominated by expensive destination day spas and, more recently, single or limited service concepts like Massage Envy, European Wax, The Dry Bar and other franchised offerings. Consumers seek various health, wellness, beauty and relaxation services on a regular basis, and it’s a fast-growing trend. But this industry lacks a day spa experience that is accessible to the broader market and that puts all these services under one roof.  This has created inconvenience and limitations for the consumer, in fact, many of our customers were members or frequented multiple, limited service centers for massage, facials, waxing, hair styling, manicures/pedicures and more. We created Sirius Day Spa, so consumers can have a high-quality day spa experience that incorporates these services in an affordable and flexible monthly membership, in one beautiful, tranquil environment.  It also creates a franchise business model with the opportunity for you to maximize revenue and profitability while you satisfy this fast-growing need. 

How has your industry changed in the last 10 years?  20 years?

The biggest change has been the drive towards membership based, single service concepts—a revolution started by the founders of Sirius Day Spa with Massage Envy.  

What trends do you see in your industry over the next 5 years?  Next 10 years?

The next revolution will be more consumer-friendly, less limiting membership concepts with more services in one space as part of a higher quality experience. Consumers will live busier and busier lives, but with ever higher expectations.

Why do you think your company stands out in the industry? 

The founding leadership of Sirius Day Spa is one of the most experienced franchise teams around today. The team has launched or developed multiple, successful health and wellness concepts. That experience shows up in every step of the way we develop our concept and support our franchisees.

What makes your franchise/ business opportunity more attractive than your competitor’s?

Furthermore, our membership applies a dollar-for-dollar credit to the member’s account for any service they choose at a discounted member rate. This encourages spending above the membership fee due to the convenience of having it all in one location and our competitive pricing.

Describe the ideal candidate.  Do you think your requirements are any different than your competitor’s?

We’re looking for candidates who have the attitude, aptitude, integrity, entrepreneurial drive and business vision to do something special for themselves and are driven towards achieving their goals. Experience in or more areas such as sales , marketing, or management experience is a plus. The best candidates will have the drive, capacity and desire to own multiple units—and the ability to follow defined systems.

How much experience in this industry should a franchisee candidate have should they consider buying a franchise in your industry?

General business, leadership and management experience, and an understanding that this is a membership sales business, are far more important than experience in any given discipline within the spa.
