Franchise Q&A with Don Beezley, Sirius Day Spa’s Regional Developer for Chicagoland & Colorado

How was your franchise/opportunity originally conceived and started? 

It’s a great story–The original location was an independent owned by the Founder of multiple successful health and wellness concepts and franchises.  He had retired, helped a family member open up a basic concept, and they quickly realized they had created a powerful model as they added more diverse services based on being a true day spa.

What was your original vision for your company? How has that changed over time?

The health and wellness industry has been dominated by expensive destination day spas and more recently single or limited service concepts.  We discovered consumers want more services in one location for a simpler, less stressful life. As a result, we created Sirius Day Spa so that consumers, through membership, can have a high-quality Day Spa experience that incorporates all of these services at an affordable, low monthly membership price, in one beautiful, tranquil environment.    

We want Sirius Day Spa guests to have a special sanctuary and a blissful retreat within their spa! Our Spa is not a luxury but a retreat that aids in health and wellness as much as the physical beauty of our guests. Perhaps most importantly, we want to create a vehicle for our incredible franchisees to pursue their dream of building a successful business and creating their own financial security as part of an industry leading brand.

What do you believe is the single most important factor when choosing a franchise?

People and purpose. It has to be the right fit. The franchisees needs to find purpose and enjoyment n their business, and the franchise needs motivated owners with business vision, entrepreneurial drive and energetic dedication they can channel through a franchise’s systems so they can truly flourish as a business owner!

Why should someone choose your franchise over other similar franchises?

The business model of a true “retail day spa to the masses” is powerful, offering greater growth across diversified revenue streams. Our membership model is the most consumer friendly there is, while offering franchisees the opportunity to generate more revenue per client visit. And people matter—Sirius Day Spas founding team has helped establish and grow some of the most successful health and wellness franchises of the last two decades, and bring that experience to Sirius Day Spa. Our Regional Developer franchisee model also allows for a higher level of support from our experienced “RD”s” who are vested in the success of each market and each spa around the country.

What makes your industry attractive?

Sirius Day Spa was created in response to a rapidly growing $17 billion luxury Day Spa service industry. The great thing about this industry, and our model in particular, is that clients WANT to come to you—they look forward to it and make time for it as a destination. With a diverse service base, most services are also ones that persevere through economic ups and downs. 

What types of qualities do you look for in potential franchisees?

Drive, energy and adaptability—and fun to be around. Business experience is a plus, but not required, as Sirius Day Spas systems are very well developed and supported, which can help new and experienced business owners alike.

What do your franchise fees and royalties cover?

Royalties and fees cover franchise training and ongoing support, including initial efforts such as identifying locations and negotiating leases, start up planning, opening training and support, 0etc.

How do territories work for your franchisees?

Each franchisee receives a protected, exclusive territory for their location based on minimum population totals and average household income requirements in their surrounding 3 mile radius.

Where do you see your franchise in 5 years and 10 years?

Sirius Day Spa will be the national brand leader in this category.

What is your favorite advice for new franchisees to help them succeed?

You joined a franchise for a reason—put all your energy into implementing and following the franchise’s systems. That is your quickest, surest path to success!

What would you tell potential franchisees that may be nervous about the financial burdens of starting a franchise?

Any business, franchise or otherwise, involves risk, otherwise, there would be no reward. Make sure it is a fit for you and that your life is ready for the commitment of business ownership, both financially and emotionally—it takes hard work, but has incredible rewards.

On average, how long does it take to start a new franchise from the franchisees point of view?

Approximately six months from signing, assuming a suitable location is identified in a timely manner. 3 – 4 months from lease signing. 

What was your background and experience before founding this franchise?

Developed other leading health and wellness franchises and also nationally known fitness clubs.
