Q&A with Chad Jones, CDO of Five Star Painting

We recently sat down with Chad Jones, Chief Development Officer of Five Star Painting, to discuss his company’s franchise opportunity, and what sets them apart from others in the home services industry.

How was Five Star Painting originally conceived and started?

We were in the construction industry and saw a massive opportunity in the painting industry both in size and need of painting services, but also in the complete lack of professionalism inherent in the industry and service in general.

What was your original vision for your company? How has that changed over time?

Originally, we wanted to grow a very profitable business.  Now we want to see our technologies and marketing lead the way to allow franchisees to become very successful.

What do you believe is the single most important factor when choosing a franchise?

Whether or not the Franchise system will meet your needs to accelerate your goals of income and lifestyle.

Why should someone choose Five Star over other similar franchises?

We can generate up to 70% of the leads from in house managed campaigns, we have our award winning Sales Support that has proprietary telephony systems to turn leads into set appointments, industry leading pricing for product and proprietary sales, and support software that is proven to close deals and manage your business in the most efficient manner possible. We are part of a 100 Billion dollar construction industry that is continually growing every year.

What types of qualities do you look for in potential franchisees?

We are looking for entrepreneurs who have a strong sales or management background, who are good at problem solving, enjoy speaking to new people, have a strong desire for success and want to be challenged on a daily basis.

What do your franchise fees and royalties cover?

Initial training courses, exclusive territory, ability to use our brand, customized software and sales support technology access, complete marketing team support, assigned business coach and mentor, buying power and brand building.

Why has your franchise model been successful?

We can find people who need painting work to be done and convert them into paying customers. Our support systems help drive duplication of a franchisee to scale, grow and create a lifestyle people are proud of.

Where do you see your franchise in 5 years and 10 years?

Continually growing our company. In 5 years, we are forecasting around 200 units, and in 10 years 400 units.

What is your favorite advice for new franchisees to help them succeed?

The cliche line of "follow the system"

What would you tell potential franchisees that may be nervous about the financial burdens of starting a franchise?

Understand the ROI of the small and large investments and gain confidence from the historical validation of our franchisees.

On average, how long does it take to start a Five Star franchise from the franchisees point of view?

From signing to producing work, it  is about 2 months

What was your background and experience before founding this franchise?

I was an entrepreneur in the construction industry.
